Antichrist (film)

Production
Antichrist was originally scheduled for production in 2005, but its executive producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen accidentally revealed the planned ending (that the Earth was created by Satan rather than God). Lars von Trier got furious and decided to delay the shoot so he could rewrite the script.

Produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film premiered on Sci Fi channel on July 26, 2008. It was released on DVD on October 21, 2008 in the US in the UK on October 20, 2008.

Plot
A very large anaconda is captured from the Amazon River basin and is being kept in a scientific lab. Certain drugs along with a serum was added to it so as to test why such a serum only has its effect on snakes. Murdoch (John Rhys-Davies), a well-known industrialist, is paying for this research. One day the anaconda escapes from the lab and kills several scientists and assistants. A team of animal hunters led by Hammett (David Hasselhoff), a well-known snake catcher, along with Dr. Amanda Haze (Crystal Allen) from the lab lead their way to the forest to find the snake. After sometime, Amanda tells the hunters that the anaconda is pregnant. Hammett forbids the others from calling the military, and warns Amanda that she could be jailed for injecting the snakes with transgenics). All the hunters in the team are killed except for Hammett and Amanda. Amanda realizes that Hammet is actually working for Murdoch. Inside an old building, the anaconda gives birth to many babies. After a bomb is set in the building, Amanda leaves Hammett in the building with the snakes. The bomb explodes and Amanda leaves, stopping to burn all the papers related to the research and hoping she was successful in killing all of the snakes. One of Murdoch's men goes into the building and retrieves one of the baby snakes to take back to him.

Plot
Rob and Shelby are on the highway headed to Cincinnati. On the way there they join a convoy of vehicles. The convoy decides to pull over for gas. Rob meets the drivers of the 2 other vehicles in the convoy. The driver of the semi tells them that the highway ahead has bad traffic and he can show them an alternate route. At the gas station Shelby sees a woman in the window of the semi who looks scared. After they are on the road again she sees the same girl put a "Help Me" sign in the back window of the semi. The girl eventually jumps from the semi and lands on their car. The 2 cars stop and the driver of the Jeep along with Rob and Shelby get out to help the girl. The semi keeps on driving. Rob gets back in his car and chases the semi to get his plates. The driver ends up cornering Rob and then taking off back down the hill. When Rob gets back to where the others are the driver of the Jeep says that the semi driver took Shelby and the original girl from the truck. They get in the guy's Jeep and chase down the semi to an old house. The driver of the Jeep says he wants to go first (to try and stop the semi driver). Rob waits in the Jeep. Suddenly he hears a noise. He finds a cb-radio in the center console. Then he hears more noise. He looks in the back and sees movement under a tarp. He moves the tarp and sees both girls tied up. Suddenly the driver of the Jeep comes back (after bashing in the skull of the semi driver). He breaks the window of the Jeep to attack Rob.

Next scene is of a girl named Tabitha who is babysitting for her aunt. After putting the boys to bed she goes to the guest bedroom. She notices a life size clown doll. She doesn't pay much attention to it. Then she gets a call from her aunt and mentions that she's a bit spooked by the doll. The Aunt says that they dont have a life size doll. Thats when she notices the doll isn't in the chair anymore. She runs to the boys room to get them out of the house. The doll shoves spikes through the door. She and the kids get out of the house. The clown finds Tabitha in the shed outside.

Next scene you see Tabitha in a police interrogation room. A therapist comes in to talk to her. She asks her about her friend Lisa. Tabitha then starts having flashbacks. She flashes back to memories of her 2 friends Shelby and Lisa when they were all kids. A boy they were friends with shows them scary art he has created. Then it flashes to the present. Lisa is with her boyfriend looking for her roommate Cat who has suddenly disappeared.

They go to an old hotel that Lisa might be at. When she has no luck with the guy who answers the door Lisa sends her boyfriend inside. The guy who answers the door is the killer and he kills the boyfriend. A few hours later, worried about her boyfriend, Lisa goes inside and finds dead bodies all over the place. Then she comes face to face with the killer.

Again at the police station Tabitha is being grilled by the therapist. The woman asks Tabitha about her friend Shelby. Tabitha says that they were all friends. The therapist then tells her about a boy she had as a patient. Before she walks out she tells Tabitha that Lisa and Shelby are at the station, too, and to sit tight because she will be back for them. The door suddenly opens. When Tabitha walks outside the room she realizes that she is not at the police station afterall. At the end of the hallway she sees the therapist on the floor. She approaches the body when she sees an officer approaching, too. That's when she sees that he's not a cop, he's really the killer. He chases her around the basement. Eventually she's pinned in between 2 glass walls. When the lights come on behind the glass walls she sees Lisa and Shelby chained up. Eventually she's able to help them break free.

They try to make a run for it together. Before they get far the killer stabs Lisa. Tabitha and Shelby run for it. They begin climbing a ladder as the killer chases them. He climbs up behind them and grabs a hold of Shelby. Both he and Shelby fall back down to the basement floor. Tabitha continues to climb. Once at ground level she sees she's in a caged area. Suddenly an elevator comes on and she realizes the killer is coming up. She hides in what she thinks is a closet. The killer looks through a peep hole at her and then locks her in the room. Suddenly the room starts to move and she realizes she's in the back of a truck. The truck doesn't make it far from the house (which is the same house from the beginning of the movie). Tabitha grabs one of the spiked handles that the killer had used in the house she was babysitting in. When he looks through the peep hole again she stabs him in the eye. Then you see the truck driving away and hear Tabitha's voice talking about how she and her friends had laughed at him when they were a kid. And she says that even though it's all over she still can't get his voice out of her head.

Critical reception
Bloody-Disgusting.com apparently caught an early screening of the film and called it "disastrous", which might be one of the reasons why the theatrical release has been delayed so much and the eventual decision to release it direct-to-video instead.

Against the Dark

Sony Home Entertainment has announced that Steven Seagal will be making his first horror film appearance in Against the Dark. The DVD is going to drop on February 10th, 2009 for a suggested retail price of $24.96. The only special feature is a featurette called Fighting the Shadows: Behind the Scenes of Against the Dark.

Katana master Tao (Steven Seagal) leads a special ops squad of ex-military vigilantes on a massacre mission, their target: vampires. On the post apocalyptic globe, sucked dry by bloodthirsty vampires, a few remaining survivors are trapped in an infected hospital. Tao is their only hope and he knows the only cure is execution. Now it’s time for the last stand against the flesh-eating vampires and there’s nothing left to lose but the last of humanity.

The film also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s cousin, Tanoai Reed (TV’s “American Gladiators”), as well as fan favorite Keith David (Crash, The Chronicles of Riddick), Skye Bennett (The Good Night, Shadow Man) and Daniel Percival (Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj). Against the Dark was directed by first-time director and seasoned cinematographer Richard Crudo (American Pie, Pistol Whipped), written by Matthew Klickstein (Dinner Time) and produced by Steven Seagal (Urban Justice, Pistol Whipped), and Phillip B. Goldfine (Urban Justice). Check out the DVD art below courtesy of DVD Active.

You see now THIS ... this is what I'm talking about! Never mind the comeback movies of Stallone or even JCVD ... When Steven Seagal makes his comeback he's gonna be kicking the shit out of vampires! Can I get an AMEN?!?

Sony Pictures' upcoming release of Against the Dark (formerly called Last Night) will find Seagal amidst all manner of toothy mayhem.

From the official synopsis:
"Katana master Tao (Steven Seagal) leads a special ops squad of ex-military vigilantes on a massacre mission, their target: vampires. On the post apocalyptic globe, sucked dry by bloodthirsty vampires, a few remaining survivors are trapped in an infected hospital. Tao is their only hope and he knows the only cure is execution. Now it’s time for the last stand against the flesh-eating vampires and there’s nothing left to lose but the last of humanity."

The DVD will feature one featurette entitled "Fighting the Shadows: Behind-the-Scenes of Against the Dark" and I'm sure testosterone-laden laughs aplenty. The man's first horror movie will hit home on February 10th, 2009. Click the link below to pre-order.

Also, in case you missed it, a while ago I blogged about how all of Seagal's movie titles told a story. I have updated it especially for this occasion and present it to you now in its entirety!

Steven Seagal was ABOVE THE LAW, but he was too HARD TO KILL, so now he’s been MARKED FOR DEATH by Haitians who are OUT FOR JUSTICE. Can he live while UNDER SIEGE? Could you survive while UNDER SIEGE 2? It was time to make an EXECUTIVE DECISION about THE GLIMMER MAN. There’s a FIRE DOWN BELOW and only Seagal, THE PATRIOT, can heal the EXIT WOUNDS left in his TICKER. Despite being HALF PAST DEAD, THE FOREINGER who was OUT TO KILL Seagal emerged from THE BELLY OF THE BEAST. His name was CLEMENTINE. Safety was OUT OF REACH for Seagal, but still he walked INTO THE SUN until he was SUBMERGED into the Pacific Ocean by a threat unknown. TODAY YOU DIE yelled Clementine as THE BLACK DAWN rose. But Steven is a MERCENARY FOR JUSTICE, a SHADOW MAN, an ATTACK FORCE all his own! His FLIGHT OF FURY would unleash some cold hard URBAN JUSTICE as he PISTOL WHIPPED the man whose true motivation was to stop filming of THE ONION MOVIE. At this KILLING POINT Seagal prevailed, proving that he is still -- THE PRINCE OF PISTOLS! It was then that he finally flipped the KILLSWITCH. A midget named RUSLAN was his next target, and tonight would be the little man's LAST NIGHT on earth if he didn't comply peacefully. Seagal was to be THE KEEPER of his tiny destiny. Together they would both have to fight AGAINST THE DARK!

Vacancy 2: The First Cut

Vacancy 2: The First Cut is a 2009 American horror-thriller and the prequel to 2007's Vacancy. It was directed by Eric Bross and stars Trevor Wright, David Moscow, Agnes Bruckner and Gwendoline Yeo.

Plot
Set years before the first film, the movie takes place in and around the Meadow View Inn, a small roadside motel in rural North Carolina. It starts off with newlyweds driving and the bride wants to have sex in the car, which makes the groom stop. They are then stopped by a man who shows them where the motel is. The manager, Gordon (David Moscow), oversees an operation of using cameras within the motel to videotape the newlyweds having oral sex. Later, a serial killer (Scott G. Anderson) who checks into the motel as simply Smith brutally murders a woman he brought with him in one of the motel rooms. The horrified staff see the whole crime on videotape and then subdue the man. They however do not know what to do with him as they will endanger their operation if they call the police. Smith manages to convince Gordon and his staff to hire him to torture and murder the motel guests on videotape and then sell them as snuff films.

The trucker confirms that this is indeed a functional market and Gordon agrees under the conditions that he is the leader of the operation. Smith mockingly agrees. A couple of days later, a young couple Caleb (Trevor Wright) and Jessica (Agnes Bruckner) and their friend Tanner (Arjay Smith) check into the Meadow View Inn for a night's rest, unaware of the inn's sick-minded employees and their nefarious intentions. As the killers begin to terrorize the hotel guests, it quickly becomes apparent that Smith is a loose-cannon, with no intention of following Gordon's lead. He fashions a crude mask out of wire and proceeds to murder two of the hotel's three guests. They take and kill Caleb, while Jessica and Tanner hide in the woods and then to a nearby house. It is revealed that the man who stopped the newlyweds lives in the house with his wife. It is revealed his name is Otis. They let Jessica and Tanner in. They tell the couple about the killers, but Otis doesn't believe them. Smith and the others come in, telling the man that Jessica and Tanner stole from them, which Otis believes. But his wife does not, as she takes the phone and is about to call the cops. Quickly, Smith shoots Otis then his wife and runs after Jessica and Tanner

They catch both and do tortouous things to Tanner first. Smith calls the others off, since he wants to kill Jessica himself. The others are watching on tape what Smith is going to do. But one of them doesn't want to kill anymore and Gordon says, "We'll call the cops and blame the whole thing on Smith." Smith leaves the room to check on Gordon and the others. Jessica found a way to untie herself. Smith comes back and is about to kill Jessica. But Jessica had a knife she stole from them and stabs Smith in the neck. But Smith didn't die. Jessica escapes and Gordon and the others run to see what happened to Smith. Jessica hides and finds dead bodies. She then finds Caleb dead and Tanner, dying while choking on his blood. Meanwhile, Smith [who took care of the wound] and the others desperatly search for Jessica. One of the staff go to the place where Jessica hid, but she hides under Caleb's body and pushes it upward, causing the employee to die [since it had low ceiling and nails sticking out of it] Jessica takes his gun and goes underwater in the lake. Gordon goes to the lake and searches for her.

Jessica, underwater, pulls out the gun out of the water. Gordon turns around to see it and Jessica pulls the trigger, killing him. Smith hears the gunshot and runs to the lake. Jessica gets out quickly and hides in Smith's trailer. He finds her and tries to stab her, but she gets the torcher and burns him and she runs. The next day, the cops arrive and Jessica tells the story. But they aren't sure of her story.

At another hotel (it is disputed as to whether or not this is the Pinewood Hotel seen in the first film), a badly scarred Smith informs the trucker that he will have the motel up and running in a few weeks just as soon as the cameras are set. Smith gives the trucker the very first snuff film that features one of the guests he murdered at the Meadow View Inn. He tells the trucker that he will burn more copies as soon as he can.
